What a fantastic evening we had on 15th June! It was our Club’s 10-year anniversary and summer party which we held at Café Crisis close to Liverpool Street. The party also provided us with the fortuitous opportunity to celebrate our achievement of 10 DCP points for the first time in our club’s history! There was certainly lots to be proud of that night, which reinforced the commitment of all those who have been involved in making WiBF Speaker Club – City what it is today.
The party was planned and hosted remarkably well (well done Anqi, Alexia and Luana!), which involved some blast from the past moments as former members graced us with their presence as well as newbies to the club. Meeting summaries from up to 10 years ago were posted around the room; explanations of how we party in our respective countries were proudly and artistically displayed complete with national flags. Drinks flowed, canapes gulped and an array of 10 delightful and challenging games based on Toastmaster roles were played throughout the eveninh. The games were based on roles such as best time keeper, best grammarian, best table topic master and best toastmaster in a unique way which involved being tested on our knowledge or English and foreign words, our ability to story-tell under challenging circumstances and play Charades. Well done Anqui for being such a brilliant Toastmaster and masterminding some fabulous games.
Sayara delivered a keynote speech about ‘stepping in’, grabbing the opportunities and growing from what we learn. It was a very encouraging speech and I hope many of us will remember it when we are faced with an opportunity to step in in the future!
At the end of the evening we celebrated the work of the outgoing committee and welcomed the incoming committee. Please see below an array of pictures which capture highlights of the evening!
