What a great club meeting this week! Julia, our club’s only Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), was our Toastmaster of the evening and led us through a fantastic evening. The theme for the evening was smiles/chuckles/giggles, and she asked us when was the last time we did either of these things and why? We heard many funny stories!
We had 3 prepared speeches – all from advanced manuals.
Loretta started off with her speech “Baby Care”, which was from the Public Relations manual and she had to deliver a Crisis Management Speech. She delivered her speech in a calm and composed way as Baby Care’s PR representative commenting on some shocking news.
Armelle came second with the a Technical Briefing Speech named “Be GDPR ready!” And I would not have thought that the General Data Privacy Regulation, which will apply to international businesses from 2018, might also apply to a local cake shop in London, selling cakes locally?!?! Thank you for making us aware Armelle!
Sayara tackled a speech from the Speaking to Inform manual, and with “Looking for a story to tell” she explained the abstract concept of finding a story to tell in everyday situations.
Our evaluators were Ailsa, Anqi, Aileen and Nadine. Thank you also to our grammarian Carrie for providing the word of the day “moil” and to our timekeeper Alexia who is one of our newest members and performed her first ever role, well done!
Thank you to Brana for leading us through the Table Topic session (impromptu speaking) with questions on miracles, attracting talent, taming the chimp and education!
Best speaker was awarded to Loretta, best evaluator went jointly to Ailsa and Aileen and best Table Topics Speaker went to Barbora. Many congratulations to you all!
A big THANK YOU goes to Alfonso for his great general evaluation, and many congratulations also to Loretta, who, with the delivery of her speech finished her second advanced communicator manual and will shortly be awarded the Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB) title. What a great achievement!
